My Personal Management Philosophy
As a teacher classroom management has always been a main focus of mine from day one in the classroom. For me mastering this is essential. Achieving effective classroom management requires time, effort and commitment. Some major factors that influence classroom management are, communication, protocols and positive/negative consequences. By Focusing on perfecting these aspects in the class, management will evolve into an efficient daily practice.
The first component that comes to mind when I think of successfully managing my classroom is communication. Communication forms the base of all interactions in the classroom, including management. As a teacher is important to clearly correspond with all individuals connected with the classroom. These members include, students, parent, and colleagues. To effectively communicate figuring out how to get through to each type of person is necessary. To be triumphant in the classroom management, communication also has to succeed.
Class protocols also play a huge role in classroom management. In creating protocols management becomes easier. If students know the correct steps to complete various tasks throughout the day, the classroom will naturally be more manageable. To encourage the use of these protocols posters listing the specific steps can be hung throughout the classroom. Additionally regular practice of these protocols will happen throughout the year.
The final influence, consequences, is main driving force in classroom management. By creating consequences for both positive and negative behaviors students are encouraged to be the best classroom community member they can be. For example students work collectively as a class to fill the marble jar, this consequence encourages students to follow all of the class rules, expectations and protocols. As a teacher, in doing this successful management will easier to achieve.
When looking at classroom management it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Focusing on and mastering classroom elements such as communication, protocols, and consequences can help to ease this feeling. By incorporating classroom management skills into daily tasks the daunting task of controlling the classroom is completely possible.
