Gain Student Attention
Students will respond to various cues or phrases designed to catch attention. These actions will be practiced regularly to strengthen classroom management.
Some major cues used in the classroom are as follows.
- 1, 2, 3, eyes on me- For this phrase students will respond, "1, 2, eyes on you.” This gets student attention on the teacher as well as requiring participation.
- Silent Coyote- This silent cue is done by holding up a hand in a shadow puppet coyote formation. Once a student puts their coyote up, they should remain silent.
- If you can hear me- When looking for student attention the phrase "If you can hear me clap once" is said very quietly the students that hear it will respond in a clap. This phrase is repeated with voice level rising and clap number increasing until all the students are paying attention and actively participating

Students access these pencils by doing the following.
1. Students may grab pencils from the SHARP pale as needed throughout the day.
2. When students need a new SHARP pencil they place the old one in the DULL pencil pale.
3. When the SHARP pencil pale has three or less pencils, student will notify teacher.
Note: The pencil pal has the job of sharpening and preparing all the pencils for the next day. This job title is assigned to a new student each day during calendar.
